BetOnSports possibly linked to U.S. Mafia group
Times Online - Prosecutors of the american online bookmaker Betonsports, recently said that the company once shared the same address of Safe Deposit Sports (SDS), a company linked to the Bonanno gang, one of New York’s five Mafia families.
SDS shared the technical address, and the company was based in Costa Rica, the same country where the fugitive founder of Betonsports, Gary Kaplan, escaped.
A big share of the money collected by SDS went through Costa Rica, home to a large number of online betting groups. The boss Anthony Urso, also known as Tony Green, before to get arrested in September last year, used to receive a monthly “tribute” from the gambling ring for protection.
Betonsports is quoted at the Stock Exchange in London, but its base is in Costa Rica. The chief executive of the British division, David Carruthers, was arrested by the FBI two weeks ago on his way from Costa Rica. Kaplan faces is still wanted by the FBI. Carruthers was sacked by Betonsports last week.
A Betonsports spokesman said current management had no knowledge of SDS. “There is no relationship between Betonsports and this company in our current situation or since going public.”
